Call for Papers
23rd Annual Conference

"Israel as an Immigrant Society: Between the Melting Pot and Multiculturalism"

Open University of Israel

Ra'anana

June 11-13, 2007

The Program Committee of the 23rd Annual  Conference of the Association for Israel Studies invites scholars conducting  research  on  Israel   in all spheres of knowledge to submit electronic proposals for organized panels, individual papers, round table discussions, and “meet  the author” sessions relating  to the main  theme of the conference: "Israel  as an Immigrant Society:  Between the Melting Pot and Multiculturalism", as well  as other topics relating  to the general  field of Israel studies. The main  theme of the conference is designed to help make the conference an exciting forum for ideas and perspectives on one of the most  fundamental  features of Israel.

Panels

Organized panels may consist of three or four papers of a maximum of 20 minutes in length. Alternatively, panels may also consist of three papers and a respondent. A question and discussion period will follow presentation of all of the papers, or at the session chair’s discretion, an 8-10 minute question and answer period will follow each paper. Panel organizers should provide a session abstract that explains the rationale for the session and describes the overall questions and goals of the session; names of the participants including a chairperson (who may also serve as respondent); abstracts for each paper to be included in the session (up to 300 words each).

Individual papers

The proposal should include a title, the name of the presenter and a short abstract (up to 300 words).

Roundtables

Roundtables are structured   around  a particular question, theme, or  issue and consist  of three to five discussants and  a chair.  Roundtable participants usually begin by presenting brief prepared comments and  then engage in dialogue with the other  discussants  and  the audience. Those submitting  a  roundtable proposal are asked to submit a session  abstract  that describes the overall  questions and goals of the session  and, in brief, the perspective that will  be represented  by each discussant.  All roundtable proposals must  include a chairperson.   Individual discussants are not  expected to submit paper titles or abstracts but are required  to register  for the conference in order  for the roundtable to be considered  for inclusion in the conference.

Deadline for all submissions: January 31, 2007.

Please submit your proposal electronically, by e-mail,  as an attachment!!!  Don't forget to add your e-mail address to the Word document you send as an attachment. Send to the member of the program committee whose area of responsibility is closest to the proposal's discipline, with a copy to the committee chair. If in doubt, please contact the committee chair.
