	תקציר השפה אינה רק כלי להעברת מידע אלא היא כלי לחשיבה וליצירת מידע. מבחינה זו יש להתייחס אל היבטים שונים של השפה כמשרתים צרכים שונים של הפעילות הקוגניטיבית האנושית. רצוי, אם כן, לחקור את התפקידים השונים שממלאת השפה בבחינת "טכנולוגיה קוגניטיבית". ההרצאה תציע הגדרה, אפיונים פחות או יותר מדויקים של תפקידים אלה, מיונם והדגמתם. חומר קריאה מומלץ לקראת ההרצאה
