The present collection is the first attempt tin Yiddish lexicography to assemble and describe blessings and curses (or good and bad wishes) as a genre of folklore. This genre is highly developed in Yiddish and is richer and more variegated than similar expressions in the folklore of many other peoples. This dictionary contains only a portion of the blessings and curses that exist in Yiddish, because it is really impossible to compile an exhaustive list. Firstly, Yiddish has been spoken in different parts of the world - Europe, North and South America, South Africa, Australia and Israel; secondly, so long as people continue to speak Yiddish, they continue to create new blessings and curses and variations of existing expressions.
