"A significant difference between science courses and nonscience courses is the inclusion of the laboratory (…). Too often our students fail to realize the extensive experimental work behind the facts presented so freely in lecture. The laboratory can bring abstract words and concepts to life. (…)

As we prepared this fourth edition of A Laboratory for General, Organic, and Biochemistry we bring to bear nearly thirty years of concern for the laboratory experience. The laboratory exercises in this manual are designed to support the training of students in health-related areas, agriculture and general education. Each has been modified, rewritten and modified again until we were confident the concepts we wanted to show were clearly demonstrated.(…) Detailed, comprehensive instructions for preparing each experiment are in the Instructor's Manual. In addition, The Instructor's Manual contains many hints that we have learned over the years to ensure student success.

General Organic Biochemistry

This collection of twenty-seven experiments begins with the basics of measurement and concludes with the chemistry of digestion. Some experiments require more than one laboratory period. Each is written as a self-contained teaching and learning unit."
