Edited by: David Herman, Manfred Jahn and Marie-Laure Ryan

The entries contained in the volume cover the history of the field, key terms and concepts developed by theorists of narrative, various schools and approaches, important debates, and a wide range of disciplinary contexts with narrative figures prominently. The emphasis of the encyclopedia is on ideas, and there are consequently no entries devoted to individual theorists, but the volume's detailed index will enable readers to trace important contributions by ancient as well as recent and contemporary scholars of narrative.
