30 Shirley and Tal: It's worth noting that our artistic practices are quite different. Shirley works in the studio through various mediums, creating images from scratch through labor-intensive processes. For her, the photographic image doesn't necessarily speak to a representation of reality but it is more about the essence of the photographic medium and about disrupting a direct representation of reality. Shirley's photographs are made through various layers of working in the studio (such as, reconstructing the environment of a particular landscape or constructing natural phenomena in the studio, etc.) which, only at the end of the process, converge into one image that is photographed and which then exists on a surface one might call a photograph. Tal works from an approach that combines photography and thinking about digital space as part of the cultural-social fabric of the image. Recently, he has been investigating the shift of the photographic medium in this technological age, especially in light of AI developments. Advanced technologies, such as facial recognition, emotion detection, and various surveillance technologies position photography as part of a complex network of power mechanisms. For Tal, investigating the photographic medium is also an investigation of how technology influences the way we see, perceive, and shape reality around us, whether through control, visibility, or through creating new forms of representation in the social and cultural space. This is why the connection between us can also be seen as a microcosm for the complex relationship we have with artificial intelligence: a relationship that both approaches it and distances from it. These are the questions that accompanied our collaboration and they seem to be universal and contemporary regarding AI. The connection between us also represents the variety of voices on this issue: some see the promising potential of AI while others approach it with skepticism and fear. Carmit: The video was born out of the work on the niches. Please elaborate and tell how it was created. Shirley and Tal: The video is essentially a meeting point between two still photographs, where artificial intelligence was used as a tool for creating the transition between them. This process gave birth to bridges: endless and imaginary spaces that don't exist in reality and offered a new interpretation of Ada Karmi's complex architectural structure. The video creates a visual journey moving from the basement floor to the outside, between the different
