This paper describes an introductory course to algorithmics, which we recommend as a first course in a study program leading to teachers' certification in computer science. This pre-programming introduction to the field of computing emphasizes the algorithmic approach to problem solving, and does not involve any coding. Instead, a visual tool -- a multi-layered chart -- is introduced, to help in the designing and developing of algorithms.
We present here an outline of the course, and the visual tool.
