PostHum_Condition_A_Tribute_to_Guernica

E13 Picasso’s monumental composition, the humans and animals are ensconced in their agony, and do not communicate with the viewer. Platnic’s figures return our gaze, whisper, or engage through motion as a way of immediate response. When a visitor approaches the video monitors, the respective video fadesin, its protagonist coming to life. A similar animation takes effect when we approach the “robots” in the gallery space. Each comes to life according to Platnic’s programming, yet they convey a sense of emotional immediacy that is far from mere technological manipulation. These figures seem to occupy a thin interval between the human and the post human, acting as potent triggers for emotional awareness. Platnic’s tribute to Picasso’s Guernica is thus essentially very human. This is strongly apparent in the anxiety with which Platnic's installation probes his perception that human culture is being erased by increasingly complex human-created technologies.
