E16 Zoya Cherkassky's painting October 7, 2023 was one of the first to appear online following the massacre, and it quickly gained widespread attention. Painted in the immediate aftermath of the attack, it echoes the profound distress, anxiety, and collective shock that permeated the whole country. The composition depicts three generations of a family: grandparents, parents, three children and an infant, crowded in physical proximity in a small, dark, empty space. Hovering above is a skull that serves as The uniqueness of Guernica lies in its ability to transform an historical event, set in a particular moment in time, into a universal work of art. Its expressive drama is charged with rage, protest, and human outcry; it further breaks the codes of tangibly representing reality, as these were previously known, since the Renaissance.
