E18 The space in which it is set is dark and somber, dominated by emptiness and void. The composition draws the viewer upward toward the iconic lamp, which resembles a bomb. The red paint in the painting seems fleshy and material, likened to dripping blood. A drawing by Zeev Engelmayer in black, white, and gray also expresses chaos and terror. The figures are situated in extreme proximity, some lying on the ground, hands raised in all directions, pleading. To the Jewish-Israeli eye, they evoke Holocaust imagery. Their eyes are prominent, in some, a single tear that expresses the intense anxiety is contained within. In Aviv Grinberg's work A Moment in Hell, disorder reigns. The figures desperately cling to one another, their hands protecting their faces in shock, while they remain attached to their screens that appear to be the only bridge to the outside world.
