E6 Probing the (Post) Human Condition: Michel Platnic’s Tribute to Guernica Hava Aldouby Michel Platnic’s artistic journey demonstrates a deep and evolving engagement with painting, both as a fundamental material practice in his early work and as a rich and complex source of art historical reference in his later video tableaus and AImediated moving image installations. His unique approach involves performative engagement with painting as a springboard to explore enduring existential concerns. Platnic’s early career involved daringly transposing his own self-portrait, which he had previously painted on canvas, directly onto his bare skin (figure 1). This work, which went beyond conventional portraiture, marked a crucial juncture in the evolution of Platnic’s practice. His experimentation with unmediated contact between paint and skin continued in subsequent works, as he explored skin as a border and protective envelope, both physically and culturally.
