Willingness of the Arab Population in Israel to Adopt Household-level Climate Adaptation Measures VI Coordination: Authorities should coordinate volunteer activities with relevant departments as needed, such as emergency services; the Department of Social Welfare for initiatives focused on lowerincome households or older adults who live alone; and the Department of Urban Landscape, Sanitation and Public Spaces ( Shefa) regarding initiatives related to public spaces. 2.3 Encourage pervious yard covers and disconnection of rainwater gutters from the sewage system Local authorities, with the support of relevant ministries and in partnership with water and sewage corporations should focus on initiatives and policies to enhance perceived self-efficacy and social norms. Authorities should provide information on the different options and how to implement them technically: • Permeable cover in private yards, such as: open soil with xeriscaping, pervious gravel or paving, rain gardens, etc. • Alternatives to gutter-sewage system connections, such as: drains into the yard (e.g. simple version of a rain garden), or drains into the street Local authorities should provide technical and/ or material support to households via subsidies or house call consultancy. This could start with a pilot in a few households, and the results could be used to demonstrate existing examples of implementation at the household level.
