E 8 Mali De-Kalo is one of Israel's leading artists in the field of video art. Her work stems from an ongoing investigation of architectural spaces and the human and social conditions embedded within them. She observes architectural sites and structures as living organisms, carrying within them history, power structure, and human movements. Over the past decade, her work has focused on large-scale video installations that invite viewers into an immersive and active experience — one of surrender, alertness, and vigilance. In Weaving Sky and Earth, De-Kalo directs her gaze toward the Open University, forging a connection between the campus with its various buildings and the individuals – and their personal stories – who occupy them. These observations are interwoven into a kind of visual and emotional investigation. In a site-specific, large-scale video installation, she examines the dynamics between architecture and the human experience it contains, as a gesture to both realms. Alongside the subjects of her work — the interviewees, the architecture, and the operational elements, De-Kalo's work foregrounds another protagonist — the duration of the camera’s movement — an artistic practice that has defined her work in recent years. The duration, as the camera slowly scans, allows the gaze to linger on the subjects of observation. De-Kalo's camera wanders, scans, and offers a vantage point distinct from an aerial perspective; The Invisible City: Upper World and Under World Carmit Blumensohn
