Dr. Orli Lachmy

Dr. Lachmy is a climate researcher from the Department of Natural and Life Sciences at the Open University and the head of the field of Earth Sciences at the University. Her research deals with processes controlling the structure of winds and temperature on Earth, with an emphasis on mid-latitudes.

Dr. Lachmy examines the dynamics of atmospheric flow to improve the accuracy of short- and long-term climate forecasts. She focuses on mid-latitude storms and the atmospheric jet stream, which represents an area of strong westerly winds at a height of about ten kilometers above the surface. Dr. Lachmy aims to improve the theoretical understanding of this dynamic system to improve the reliability of climate forecasts. Her research on the effect of heat release in mid-latitudes on storm tracks received funding from the National Science Foundation (ISF).
