Transkribus is an open online platform for the automatic transcriptions of texts, both handwritten text recognition (HTR) and optical character recognition (OCR). This tool transcribes the text of an uploaded image file, turning it into a text file that can be analyzed and searched. With Transkribus, it is also possible to automatically recognize the layout of a text, such as divisions of paragraphs, titles, footnotes and other features.
By providing an environment and tools for training an AI model on particular corpuses, Transkribus offers a solution for differences in handwritings, printed texts and layouts, that reduces the error rate of generic models.
Transkribus is a platform where researchers can share their AI models and transcribed corpus, enabling other scholars to use them in their own work. Furthermore, Transkribus continues to grow and develop, adding new features, new AI models and upgrades to existing ones.
