The MSCA strongly contribute to excellent research, boosting jobs, growth and investment by equipping researchers with new knowledge and skills and providing them with an international as well as inter-sectoral exposure (including through academia-business collaboration), to fill the top positions of tomorrow.

MSCA Doctoral Networks (MSCA-DN)

Aim to train creative, entrepreneurial, innovative and resilient doctoral candidates, able to face current and future challenges and to convert knowledge and ideas into products and services for economic and social benefit.

The MSCA DN will raise the attractiveness and excellence of doctoral training in Europe. They will equip researchers with the right combination of research-related and transferable competences and provide them with enhanced career perspectives on both the academic and non-academic sectors through international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral mobility combined with an innovation-oriented mind-set.

The MSCA DN focus on career development plan, supervision, training: research and transferable skills.

One action to set up doctoral programmes, including:

Industrial Doctorates: Training in academia and industry, Joint supervision

Joint Doctorates: Joint collaborations leading to a joint/multiple doctoral degree, Joint selection and supervision; pre agreement for joint degrees is required.

Target group

Doctoral candidates, i.e. researcher without a doctoral degree at the date of the recruitment Who applies? Partnerships of universities, research institutions and research infrastructures, businesses including SMEs, and other socioeconomic actors At least three independent legal entities, each established in a different MS or AC; minimum of one beneficiary from a MS (on top of this minimum, any entity from any third country can join)

Size

Up to 360 person-months (standard), Up to 540 person-months for joint or industrial doctorates (incentive)

Duration

Project: maximum 48 months, Fellowships: 3 - 36 months, Secondments: up to 1/3 of the fellowship duration Industrial doctorates: 50% of the fellowship in the non-academic sector; can be in the same country as the academic host organization

MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA-PF)
Enhance the creative and innovative potential of researchers holding a PhD, wishing to acquire new skills through advanced training, international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral mobility.
MSCA PF are open to excellent researchers of any nationality, including researchers wishing to reintegrate in Europe, researchers who are displaced by conflict as well as researchers with high potential aiming for a career restart in research. The scheme also encourages researchers to work on research and innovation projects in the non-academic sector.

Types of fellowships

European Fellowships: 12-24 months, Global Fellowships: 24-36 months (12-24 outgoing phase & 12 months mandatory return phase in Europe)

Eligibility

Require PhD degree at the call deadline Limit research experience: up to 8 years of research experience after PhD at the call deadline, with exceptions: years outside research and career breaks will not be counted For nationals & long-term residents of EU MS and AC, who wish to reintegrate from a TC to Europe (i.e. direct mobility to an EU MS or AC within the last 12 months before the call deadline), time of research experience in the TC will not be counted

Secondments

Worldwide Up to 1/3 of the fellowship duration Placements at the end of Fellowships: Additional up to 6 months in European organization in non-academic sector.

MSCA Staff Exchange (MSCA-SE)
Promote innovative international, inter-sectoral and interdisciplinary collaboration in research and innovation through exchanging staff and sharing knowledge and ideas at all stages of the innovation chain.
MSCA SE fosters a shared culture of research and innovation that welcomes and rewards creativity and entrepreneurship and helps turn ideas into innovative products, services or processes. It is open to research, technical, administrative and managerial staff supporting R&I activities.
