Yesterday, June 11th 2023, the new Environment and Sustainability Research Centre at the Open University of Israel was officially launched with a conference on the topic: "Cities 2040 - challenges of sustainable construction in Israel".

During the four panels held, a variety of topics were discussed, among them, the increasing density in Israel's cities and its effects on the urban structure and the quality of life of the residents in various aspects; climate change and preparation for it in Israel and the ways to increase the independence of the local government so that it can implement policies that are compatible with the needs and expectations of the residents.

The conference hosted researchers from the Open University and other academic institutions alongside the mayors of Kfar Saba, Ra'anana and Yehud-Monosson, representatives of the Center for Local Government and others.
